My work has been inspired by personal interests in interior and fashion asesthetics as well as a deep connection to the natural world.
In my portraits, the patterned textiles refer to life, the domestic, heritage, era and taste. Textiles furnish both the homes we live in and the clothes we wear. Textile designs pass from one world into the other.
New abstract expressionist work draws on the dramatic landscapes of the north island of New Zealand and the emotional response I had while walking there.
Most recently I’ve been developing a series of oil on board works exploring global themes of climate, war and migration and the waves of rejection, segregation, neglect and depersonalisation that crush the individuals caught in their wake.
